‘An important goal of the ‘Μεττάλων τόποι’ program is the creation of a Center for Highlighting the Physical and Geo-Metallurgical Heritage of Asgata. The Center will be called "Asgata Mining Heritage Museum" and will be housed in the old primary school of Asgata, which is a privately owned community building. The museum aims to highlight the natural and geo-metallurgical heritage of Asgata, through audio-visual material, objects, and museum games. The museological exhibition will be organised around four thematic sections, which are determined by the objects available to us. These are the geology of the area, the exploitation of the mines during antiquity, the equipment of the miners, and the specialised instruments of the Hellenic Mining Company. In the courtyard of the museum, a space will be created to carry out simulations of the production of ancient metals. Necessary conditions for achieving the above are the maintenance of the building, (built in 1922) the addition of showcases for the exhibition of objects, as well as the management of the interior space for the projection of audio-visual and informational material for the visitor.’

Research and coordination: The University of Cyprus Archeological Unit in collaboration with The Asgata community board.
