Unseen Gaze

The Hidden Portrait under Titian’s Ecce Homo

Exhibition Design

This pop-up event organised by the Cyprus Institute, held at the Ethnological Museum House Of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios presents work in progress for the preparation of the exhibition "Unseen Gaze the Hidden Portrait under Titians Ecce Homo".

The exhibition offers an exciting introduction to art characterization and the ways analytical work has enhanced our understanding of the material aspects of art. The canvas of Titian’s Ecce Homo hides a lost masterpiece of the great master, a portrait of an anonymous man. Thanks to the work of APAC Labs researchers, we can reveal the painting’s stratigraphy and discover the details hidden in its layers as they relate to the work’s provenance and attribution. Building on the results of our work we have embarked on an ambitious attempt to rediscover and recreate the lost portrait with the close collaboration of artist Erato Hadjisavva.
